On September 26, 2013 just before 7:45 pm, witnesses near 10300 Plummer heard gunfire in the alley and went to see what was happening. Two witnesses entered the alley and saw a male with his gun standing over a man later identified as Jerry Hale, W/M/12-11-82. Witnesses called 911, telling the 911 operator that there was a man with a gun standing over a person who had been shot. Officers were dispatched on a shooting call.
As the witnesses approached the man with the gun, they told him they had called 911. Witnesses said the man turned towards them, manipulating the slide on his weapon and pointed his weapon in their direction. These witnesses then fled the alley. The witnesses remain on the phone with 911 until officers arrive.
Officers Kody Martinez, #10412, and Alexander Everett, #9954, arrive first to the shooting call at 10300 Plummer and observe a man with a gun standing over a body in the alley. The officers gave loud verbal commands to the man to drop the gun. An ambulance arrives at the location and enters the alley. Officer Everett runs towards the ambulance to tell them to move back to a safe position because of the armed suspect. Officer Martinez maintains his position and is still giving the subject loud verbal commands to drop the gun. The subject with the gun walks behind a privacy fence and out of sight of Officer Martinez.
Officer Martinez sees someone open a door to a house next to the privacy fence where he last saw the subject with the gun. Martinez believes this is the subject and maintains his position.
Cover officers Joshua Wilson, #10152, Daniel Summers, #9873, and Julian McDaniel, #9909, arrived and observed a man lying in the alley in a pool of blood. The cover officers approach the man on the ground to attend to him.
Officer Everett observes the cover officers attending to the man lying in the alley and sprints towards them yelling that the suspect is behind them. At this time the man appears, with a gun, from behind overgrown bushes. Officers give him loud verbal commands to drop the gun.
The subject manipulates the slide on his weapon, moves towards the officers, and raises the gun at the officers. Officers Everett, Summers, and McDaniel fire their weapons at the armed subject.
Multiple independent witnesses report hearing the officers repeatedly order the man to drop his weapon.
Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene. The homeowner has been identified as William Hall W/m/57. Nest of kin notifications have been made. No officers were injured in the incident. The service numbers are 248051-A and 247968-A.
